North Vancouver School District Track and Field program is open to all students in grades four through seven. It takes place in April thru to the beginning of June each year, culminating in a School District Track and Field meet in June at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby. Mini meets will be held in North Vancouver at both Braemar and Highlands school locations after school. The qualifying meet will be held at Sutherland Secondary School. The District meet will be held at Swangard Stadium, Burnaby.
2023/2024 Track & Field Season
The Track & Field Season extends from April to June and is open to all Grade 4-7 students. Track and Field is a district wide program which culminates in a track meet held at Sutherland Secondary School . Braemar competes in a zone with Larson and Highlands Elementary schools. Since it is a competitive program, only a certain number of students will qualify to represent Braemar at our Zone Qualification meets. However, we will be hosting Track and Field Mini-Meets, which are open to all students in Grades 4-7 to participate.
Track
- 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m & 1500 m (1500 m is for Gr. 6 & 7 only)
- 4 X 100 relay and co-ed relay (100m, 100m, 200m, 400m 2 boys & 2 girls on team)
During these practices students will be trained to run the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and mile (older grades only) and helped to pick the events that are best for them. As soon as the relay teams are organized, relay will also be a part of this training.
Zone Track Qualifications - (Only for students who qualify) Tuesday May 14th from 12:00 - 4:00 at Sutherland
Parents will be required to organize transport for these events.
Field
- Shot put, high jump, long jump and triple jump
- Zone Field Qualifications - (Only for students who qualify)
Field will take place outside of school time for those who are interested.
Parents will be required to organize transport for these events.
Things to Note
- Remember, you and your family need to organize rides for you to the meets. Carpooling is a great idea.
- It is hoped that parents will stay at these events to support the athletes. If parents are unable to stay, they must return to pick up or arrange to pick up. Please remember to car pool if you can!
- Schedules will be handed out prior to the events to assist with planning.
District Finals - June 4th, 2024 - (Only for students who qualify from Zone Meets -(8:00-4:00) at Swangard Stadium
